# Naked Singularities in Spherically Symmetric Inhomogeneous Tolman-Bondi Dust Cloud Collapse

@inproceedings{PSJoshi1993NakedSI, title={Naked Singularities in Spherically Symmetric Inhomogeneous Tolman-Bondi Dust Cloud Collapse}, author={P.S.Joshi and I.H.Dwivedi}, year={1993} }

We investigate the occurrence and nature of naked singularity for the inhomogeneous gravitational collapse of Tolman-Bondi dust clouds. It is shown that the naked singularities form at the center of the collapsing cloud in a wide class of collapse models which includes the earlier cases considered by Eardley and Smarr and Christodoulou. This class also contains self-similar as well as non-self-similar models. The structure and strength of this singularity is examined and the question is… Expand

Strength of the naked singularity in critical collapse

- Physics
- 2020

The critical collapse of a scalar field is a threshold solution of black hole formation, in which a naked singularity arises. We study here the curvature strength of this singularity using a… Expand

Globally visible singularity in an astrophysical setup

The global visibility of a singularity as an end state of the gravitational collapse of a spherically symmetric pressureless cloud is investigated. We show the existence of a non-zero measured set of… Expand

Formation of three-dimensional black strings from gravitational collapse of dust cloud

We study the formation of black strings from a gravitational collapse of cylindrical dust clouds in the three-dimensional low-energy string theory. New junction conditions for the dilaton as well as… Expand

The study reveals the fact that naked singularity is as good a possibility as black hole as far as the central singularities is concerned and also deduced the conditions under which the singularity will be a strong or weak curvature singularity. Expand

Gravitational collapse of baryonic and dark matter

A massive star undergoes a continual gravitational collapse when the pressures inside the collapsing star become insufficient to balance the pull of gravity. The Physics of gravitational collapse of… Expand

An approach to stability analyses in general relativity via symplectic geometry

We begin with a review of the statements of non-linear, linear and mode stability of autonomous dynamical systems in classical mechanics, using symplectic geometry. We then discuss what the phase… Expand

Abstract. In this article, we discuss four dimensional non-static space-times in the background of de-Sitter and anti-de Sitter spaces with the matter-energy sources as a stiff fluid, anisotropic… Expand

Abstract It may be tempting to interpret cosmic no hair theorems (establishing that, under certain conditions, a cosmological model with accelerating expansion approaches de Sitter metric in the… Expand

Dust collapse in 4D Einstein–Gauss–Bonnet gravity

We consider gravitational collapse in the recently proposed 4D limit of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We show that for collapse of a sphere made of homogeneous dust the process is qualitatively… Expand
